Just start, and see what happens
We often overthink before we begin, waiting for the right timing, the perfect plan, or the right amount of confidence. But the truth is, clarity doesn’t come before action.
Sometimes, the smartest thing you can do is simply to start, act, and see what happens.
That’s exactly what Lucas did when he launched his podcast Connecting the Dots. At 20 years old, he didn’t have years of experience, fancy equipment, or a detailed roadmap. What he had was curiosity, and the courage to act on it.
Lucas’s story: Acting before knowing
Lucas’s idea was simple: explore how people define success in their own terms. After facing rejection during his summer recruitment, he decided to stop chasing traditional definitions of achievement and start listening to others’ journeys instead.
He didn’t wait until he felt “ready.” He started recording conversations with the tools he had, learning along the way.
That act of beginning; without guarantees, without certainty; became the turning point. Each episode taught him something new: about storytelling, about people, about himself.
As he says, “You don’t figure it out before you start; you figure it out by starting.”
By taking that first step, Lucas opened doors that planning alone never could have.
A Universal lesson: Action creates clarity
This mindset echoes one of the most recognized creators of our time, Casey Neistat, filmmaker and YouTuber.
When Casey began making short films in his small New York apartment, he didn’t have a clear plan or audience. He simply wanted to tell stories. His early videos weren’t perfect, but they were real. Over time, his style evolved, his message refined, and his following grew into millions.
Had he waited for the “perfect moment” to start, none of it would have happened.
Like Lucas, Casey proved that momentum creates direction. The first version will never be your best, but it’s the only one that leads to the next.
The practical takeaway
Starting isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about trusting that you’ll figure it out once you begin. You don’t need a perfect plan, you need motion. Because motion leads to clarity, and clarity leads to growth. So instead of asking, “Am I ready to start?”, ask yourself, “What’s one small thing I can do today to move forward?”
Start there, and see what happens.
