Fall in love with the process

We tend to chase results; the views, the numbers, the recognition; when it should be seen as a consequence of our action, not a goal. The truth is, the outcome is never fully in our control. What we can control is the effort, the curiosity, and the consistency we bring each day. That’s why the real secret isn’t to chase success, it’s to fall in love with the process.

It’s a lesson Lucas learned early in his journey as the host of Connecting the Dot, and one that continues to guide him today.

Lucas’s story: From outcome to obsession

When Lucas started his podcast, he naturally hoped it would reach people. But the numbers were small. The audience was limited. It would have been easy to lose motivation, but instead, Lucas reframed his perspective.

He focused on what he could control: the conversations themselves. The editing, the questions, the learning. He found joy in refining each episode, in connecting deeply with his guests, and in improving just a little each time. Over time, that focus turned into something stronger, a genuine love for the craft.

As Lucas puts it, he became “addicted to the process.” And that addiction is what kept him going long after the initial excitement faded.

A Universal lesson: Success follows those who keep showing up

This idea resonates far beyond podcasting.
Take Kobe Bryant or Cristiano Ronaldo, amongst the most relentless athletes in history. Nor Ronaldo or Kobe’s success was built on talent alone; it was built on obsession. Kobe was known for training before dawn, reviewing game footage, and perfecting the smallest details day after day.

Kobe Bryant making a crazy dunk

He once said, “Those times when you get up early and you work hard, those times when you stay up late, those times when you don’t feel like working, that’s actually the dream.” The dream was never about the trophies, it is about the process itself.

Like Kobe and Ronaldo, Lucas understood that greatness isn’t a goal you reach once. It’s a practice you commit to every day.

The practical takeaway

Fall in love with doing the work, not just finishing it. When you enjoy the process, motivation becomes effortless, and progress becomes natural. It’s what turns consistency into growth, and growth into mastery.

So instead of asking, “When will I succeed?”, try asking, “How can I make this process more enjoyable today?
Do that, and you’ll never run out of reasons to keep going.
