What being “successful” actually looks like?
Varin L. has reached a level most 21-year-olds only dream about: a private chef, a personal trainer, luxury watches, and the freedom to work from anywhere in the world. He's running 12 YouTube channels in partnership with Sony Music and reaching 300 million viewers.
But when asked about his daily routine, he doesn't talk about yachts or parties. Instead, he describes something that surprises most people: "What would shock people the most is how organized and structured my daily routine is."
He wakes up at the same time every day., eats meals at the same time, works at the same time, trains at the same time. "I'm a very type A person," he explains. "I like getting all my work done first thing in the morning."
Wait, this is the dream life most people are chasing? A strict routine, timed and optimized for productivity? Well, if you think it’s an exception, he is far from being the only “successful” person having this kind of lifestyle.
When Emma Chamberlain got real about success
Emma Chamberlain became the face of Gen Z YouTube culture, earning millions and landing campaigns with Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein. But in her podcast, she's been brutally honest about what success actually feels like.
"I thought that when I achieved certain milestones, I would feel complete," she's said. "But the reality is, the goalpost just keeps moving." She's talked openly about struggling with anxiety despite her success, and how discipline became her anchor when the pressure mounted.
Like Varin, Emma found that success doesn't free you from routine; it makes routine even more important. The difference between long-term success and burnout is about working smarter with tailored systems.
Practical takeaway
Structure enables freedom: Varin's rigid daily routine isn't a constraint, it's what allows him to maintain multiple channels and still have a social life, because freedom requires discipline.
The question isn't "What will I do when I make it?" It's "Am I building habits now that will sustain me when I get there?"
Because the uncomfortable truth is this: Your current daily routine is a preview of your future success. If you can't be disciplined with nothing on the line, you won't suddenly become disciplined when everything is.
